CETUS

CETUS is a previously unknown aquatic and bioluminescent life form that turns any body of water into a stage for a most unusual nocturnal whale watching. Two glowing whale sharks—one a majestic 6-meter-long adult, the other a smaller 4,5-meter calf—gracefully roam the waters.

The glowing creatures shimmer in oscillating deep sea colors, fragile and surreal, as if summoned from a dream. As the soundtrack unfolds, the pair begins to tell a tale of separation and reunion. But beware: Come too close, and they may startle you with an unexpected spout of water. The shapes of CETUS resemble whale shark, but its luminance reminds us of deep sea creatures and its surface is shimmering and fragile. The whales have been appearing at: Lightwaves Manchester - UK, Sharjah Festival of Light - UAE, Culture Festival Stockholm - Sweden, City of Light Festival Jyväskylä - Finland.

CETUS hits a visceral nerve that taps into our deep-seated collective fantasies. For millennia, mariners and explorers have spun tales of uncanny creatures lurking in the depths of the sea. Today myth is replaced by technology. With the now dawning age of AI and robots we are on the cusp of producing complex artificial life forms that could one day even outlast humankind. Is CETUS a glimpse into that future?
